Today we went to two awesome rock canyons. First was Witches' Gulch. There was a wooden walkway through the gulch and we were surrounded by rocks the whole way through. Sometimes there was a stream below us, other times there were rushing whirlpools nicknamed thing like "witches' bathtub"' and still other times there were deep, still pools. And the rocks and mosses were beautiful. Yes, I know I'm a geek for this kind of stuff, but it really was very very cool (literally and figuratively).
Lyla is very into nature and wildlife and she had a good time finding "my observation area" and taking pictures. She asks a lot of really good questions and appreciates the beauty of natural things. We also played a little Wild Wild Kratts along the way (look it up on pbskids.org). Maybe someday she and Pandy will have a nature adventure show!
After Witches' Gulch we made our way to lunch at Mac again and then to Lost Canyon. This one was a guided tour and we rode in a wagon pulled by two huge Percheron horses. Lyla thought they were beautiful but admitted she didn't want to touch them because then her hands would be dirty and she couldn't chew her nails.
The horses, Dick and Dan, took us through both sides of the canyons and the guide pointed out rock formations and gave us historical facts. We were the only ones on our wagon and Lyla was very chatty. She asked a ton of questions and chatted up the guide the whole trip. He said, "for pre-k you sure seem to know a lot." (Or something like that) To which she replied, "Yep, I'm a smartie!"
After getting back we went for a swim at the pool and each picked out what we wanted for dinner at Walmart. Then we had a fun night back at the hotel eating popcorn and watching tv. Lyla was bushed again tonight and fell right to sleep. Amir is still awake ...
