KY : Day Two

After yesterday's adventure we came home for a rest and a swim before dinner. Amir likes walking in the chest deep water of the kids pool and Lyla dunked herself over and over. Lyla chose to wear her jammies to dinner. By the time we got back, Amir was exhausted and passed out in his crib.

Today we went to Mammoth Cave National Park. It was so busy we couldn't find parking and had to wait almost two hours for a tour. The kids had fun in the cave museum exhibit. Amir loved the phones you could pick up to hear the narrative.

After the exhibit and touring the gift shops, we had some snacks in the car before heading back in for the tour. We couldn't take strollers on the tour so I suited up with the carrier. We also packed sweatshirts for the kids. Seems silly when it's 97 and humid, but they were cold once we got down there.

The cave was beautiful and much easier than yesterday. A,or didn't love being carried, but did well for most of the 75 minute, 1.5 mile tour. Lyla did a great job too. Since we couldn't bring a stroller, she walked most of the way with only a short stint of carrying by Masud the muscle man. Coming back out into the heat and humidity was almost as much fun as walking up the giant hill back to the visitor center. While we were in the cave, the ranger said that people sometimes sleep in the cave, but it was usually too cold for that. I would have had no issues curling up in there!

Blurry, dark cave selfie of the day!

We had lunch at KFC on the way back. Both kids were hungry and ate lots of chicken and mashed potatoes. With full tummies we had a nice little rest time and then headed out for another swim. It was cooler tonight, so we didn't stay out long. Good thing, because it started raining not long after we got in.

We're having a great time! More adventuring to come tomorrow!
