Happy Birthday Amir -- 31 Weeks!

Happy Birthday little man! You've had a good week despite having a yucky cold. You're sleeping much better these days and easily soothe yourself back to sleep most nights you wake up. You've still been having some constipation so we're sticking mostly with baby foods like peas, carrots, and sweet potatoes. You also like regular mashed potatoes and liked trying a couple very small bites of hotdog.

Tonight you were going to town eating your peas when you surprised us all with your first sign, more! I had stopped for a minute while you brought a block to you mouth. I thought you might be done eating, but you dropped the block, brought your hands together and opened wide! When I asked if you wanted more you did it again. Such a smart boy!!

We took a warm steamy shower tonight to try to help your chest cold. Showers aren't your favorite so you snuggled into my chest. I thought maybe you were falling asleep, but I think you were just relaxing since you opened yours eyes and were alert when I had to switch arms. It was so sweet to just hold you and watch you relax and enjoy the warm water and steam. It think it helped your cold too, you were certainly a much happier boy after we got out and you got all lotionend up and into your jammies.

Lyla the chip monster had her first school conference this week. Her teacher said she doesn't have any concerns about Lyla in class and that she is always respectful, a good listener, and a good friend. She showed me samples of Lyla's writing and cutting and commented that Lyla has great fine motor skills. Lyla works really hard on her writing homework and I thought she was doing well given her disabilities, but her teacher said she is doing as well and even better than some kids without any disabilities. That's my girl!! She said Lyla is doing great with reading and that she's a level above her goal in writing and spelling. She is also doing very well at math and will start getting a little harder work to challenge her since she has already surpassed the quarter two goals and it's only the end of quarter one.

We talked about Lyla's frustration on the playground and about her feelings of being different in class. Her teacher thanked me for telling her and said she would try to be more aware of how her words might affect Lyla. She also said that about half the class has special needs of some kind or another and that Lyla isn't the only kid in her class with physical impairments. She couldn't tell me more, of course, but it was good to know.

Lyla was also the Special K this week at school! She got to be the line leader all week (especially cool since she takes her wheelchair to specials.), got to bring home Corduroy in the share bag, and got to present her poster and mystery box item in class today. She said Lucy almost guessed and Sophia got the right answer that it was Twilight Sparkle in the box!

Tonight we had a quiet night at home. We watched a little TV, took our shower, and then played on the couch after Masud got home. The kids are into playing on the floor these days. Lyla likes puzzles and Amir likes his blocks, beads, and especially his duck and submarine. Masud and I like to watch them together and reminisce about when Lyla was this age. We've got two awesome kiddos, that's for sure!
