Lyla had her seating evaluation this morning for Kathy (her OT), Brian (her PT) and Janice from NuMotion, our seating vendor. We talked about all the options and what they thought would be best for Lyla. We decided on a sporty wheelchair that's built to be light and efficient so she can push it easily and get a lot of mobility with just one push.
I wasn't sure she would like it, but she did a great job listening to the discussion and was excited to try out the floor model. It was a Ti-Light Twist and with just a couple modifications -- like taking off the splash guards and putting a transfer belt on as a seatbelt, she did great!
She wheeled herself around the gym and even stopped, turned, got in and out and put the brakes on all by herself. What a natural. She had a HUGE smile and was very proud of herself, which made me really happy too. I think she will be very proud of her chair and it will be a sign of strength for her. We talked through all the features her chair will need and she chose neon pink for the titanium body. They even let her skip the trial period since she did so well on the test run. Hopefully she will have her very own chair in just a couple months!
