Lyla had a big week this week! Yesterday she had surgery to put in her third port-a-cath implant. We got to the hospital at 9 for check in and went they hadn't called us in at 10 I went to ask what was going on. The nurse at the desk told us that he had checked up in but there was a computer error ... I don't think he actually checked us in. Whatever! In the nurse was very nice and the whole vitals and survey process went very quickly.
Lyla was a super trooper for the surgery team and even crawled off the transport bed and onto the operating table all by herself! She was happy to have the Dr. Pepper mask and smiled as she went off to sleep. What an awesome kid.
Masud and I waitied in her room until they came to say they were finishing up. Surgery only took about 30 minutes, but it took Lyla a little longer to wake up from the sedation. I we didn't have to be at the clinic we could have let her sleep longer, but with the morning delay, we were a little late and talked to her and rubbed her arms until she woke up enough to be some juice and crackers.
After post op we headed to the pharmacy in the skyway to pick up her pain meds, then down to the clinic for her first of 52 weeks of chemo. The check in crew was great and Lyla picked out a new pair of Hello Kit pajamas and a blue matchbox car from the free box. Anna got us all checked in and we mad e some Mac and cheese and got veggies, crackers and a soda while we waited for the nurse practitioner. Se was in our room when we got back and checked Lyla out. Or old nurse Kathy retired, so Heather will be our nurse this round. She was our nurse fairly often last time too. Ty's nice to have a person we know. She got us set up with a new chemo binder, a journal and a bunch of books for Lyla too.
Chemo was really fast. I went out to set up appointments and when I got back Lyla had already had the chemo and been de-accessed. Speedy delivery! We packed up, got Lyla's pink sucky from the toy tower and were on our way. Grandpa was waiting the parking lot and appeared out of nowhere with hugs and a big bag of Eid goodies for Masud. It was great to see him. It happened so fast all three of us were still thinking about what had happened later when we as down for dinner at OCB!
After dinner we came home, changed and went through the care package. Lyla was excited that Daddy shared the diet Dr. Peppers, chocolate and gummies. We had a quiet rest of the night and she and I slept in the big bed while Masud slept in her bed. She complained over and over again that her boob hurt, but the oxycodone seems to help.
This morning she got up and went to Faye's for the day. Faye said she was cuddly and stayed on the couch in the morning but she was playing tag after lunch. She only went potty once all day which made Faye and I both a little worried, but she had gone a couple more times now tonight. Looks like we will have to push fluids.
I worked from home all day and Masud took the day off to visit with his cousin Javed who is visiting with his family from London. Masud picked him up in Rochester and they visited, had lunch and went to Valleyfair. Fun! I'm glad he got a chance to have a fun day with his family.
After Valleyfair they came over to our house so Lyla and i could meet Uncle Javed too. We had a good time looking through old photos, having dinner and taking new photos. Lyla was excited to show Uncle her room and watch ponies together.
Now she's conked out in the big bed again. Hopefully another good night's rest will have her feeling better tomorrow. Her incision looks good and the steri strips are hanging on strong. She's bruised, but not too badly. We're going to see how a shower will go tomorrow so she can get cleaned up but no baths until Monday. We want the strips to stay on as long as possible to keep the wound infection free.
One big week down, 51 to go! Thanks to everyone for your support over the past couple weeks. We're glad to have a great group of friends and family so support Team Mamun!
