We had a visit from Sabrina and Dr. Najarian from Gillette. Sabrina accompanied us to the cafeteria for dinner. It was so great to see her and Lyla was quiet but happy to see her buddy. Dr. Najarian was reviewing Lyla for eligibility for Gllette rehab. We had seen him before, but I'm not sure Lyla remembered him. Short story is that she passed inspection and we were told on the way back from dinner that as long as his attending and Cigna agreed, we would be discharged to Gillette in the am. After a 6:45 am visit from Dr. Ward, we were approved on this side and at about 930 (half hour before discharge) we got word that Cigna had approved us too. Yay!
So now we're here at Gillette. Masud and I packed up both cars tuesday night so all Lyla and I had to do was start it up and be on our way. We stopped at Target between hospitals for a soft pretzel and a little retail therapy. That was the best pretzel ever!
We got to Gillette a little while later and checked in with our buddy Tracy at the registration desk. She got us checked in and walked us down to 4 North. It's pretty much the same as last time we were here, but we're in a different room and Lyla has a roommate named Emma. She's 8 and has CP. Her mom is really nice and the girls seem to like each other.
Lyla will have her first full day of therapies today, but got some bedside therapy yesterday. Kristin (OT) and Kath (PT) were both impressed with what Lyla can do. I was too. I the first few minutes she was catching a small beach ball while standing. Yes, that's a normal skill for a 4 year old, but i had never seen Lyla do it successfully before. Kristin already talked to me about reassessing her goals since she is even beating the OT goals she had in outpatient therapy! This girl is on fire!
Today she will have PT, OT, Speech and Therapeutic Recreation. Speech will work on her breathing and length of sentences to try to help her strengthen her diaphragm. They can also work on things like blowing bubbles, blowing through a straw and that kind of stuff to help get her diaphragm and lungs working better. Erin already observed that Lyla doesn't have trouble with her words or sentences. TR is a consult today. Their job is to just have fun with Lyla and think about ways for her to have fun after she leaves; it should be a good thing for Friday afternoon!
Lyla slept without oxygen again last night and seems to like being here at Gillette. She had a very good day yesterday with only a few quiet periods. I think it really helped her to leave Children's and get outside. And who doesn't love a trip to Target?! Around her 6 pm time she was tired, but good. There was a dog show last night, so we headed to the clinic area to see the dogs. She pet a few of them and then asked to go back to her room before the show even started. She told me she was not feeling well because her tummy hurt (probably from eating like crazy) and that she was feeling sad. I gave her a hug, then she pet the golden retriever several times and we came back to the room to watch ponies and snuggle.
We should be here about a week and out just in time for Easter. It will work out well that Lyla has Spring break riot after that, so she can have a week at Faye's to settle back in before jumping back into her school routine. Her buddies at school are all missing her and sent adorable a heart cards. Super cute!
