It's May and Spring is finally here! Last week Lyla had great therapy sessions with Kathy and Stephanie and a good visit with Dr. Einzig on Thursday -- he had no concerns and said Lyla was the highlight of his day! She's getting stronger and stronger every day and is fast realizing her strength. She's started running away from us now. Never too far, and not usually in an unsafe way (say, in front of cars), but she's definitely quick and we're just not used to it! She's showing off her milk mustache above.
We had a very successful garage sale on Friday and Saturday. Lyla had a good time playing with Grandpa, Ryan, Emily and Cindy while Mom and I sat in the garage and froze our bum bums off. She was excited to get a couple things at the neighborhood sales, but didn't find much more than stickers and some paint. We took the dogs for a walk with Sabrina and Matt and Lyla did a great job holding on to Vinnie's leash most of the way. She even stepped off of and onto curbs all by herself without a second thought -- we need to do that more often! After the walk Lyla had Uncle Ryan doing an obstacle course in the back yard and played store with Aunt Emily while I went to Izzy's with Sabrina and Matt. She loves her aunt and uncle and I love ice cream. It had been a LONG time and boy was it delicious!
We sold a bunch of stuff on the garage sale and Lyla was VERY excited to spend her money on the My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Royal Wedding Castle. It's been a long time coming, but she finally got it -- along with a Twilight Sparkle pony and a DVD of her favorite episode ever, Twilight Gets Her Wings. We spent a good part of Saturday night putting the castle together and playing pony wedding. She just loves it and it's so fun to see her enjoy something she earned and paid for herself. What a grown up!
Yesterday we went out for lunch with Masud and then headed to the zoo. It was the perfect day to be outside. We saw the monkeys first, then the penguins and the seahorses before heading out to see the bears and walk the northern trek. Lyla rode in the stroller on the trek, but got out for some time on the playground. She was climbing, balancing and sliding like a champ! She needed a little help, but mostly it was just her confidence needing a boost. I was especially proud of her for navigating around the other kids and holding her own on the equipment by herself. the park will definitely be an awesome PT venue this Spring and Summer.
This week we've got a visit with Dr. Kiesling and OT/PT on Wednesday. Great Grandma Mavis closes on her house today, so Lyla wants to visit her at her apartment after therapy. Lyla's been doing a great job with her CPAP mask and wore it two nights in a row this weekend. We upped her melatonin to 6mg per a suggestion from Dr. Einzig and it's working great. She falls right to sleep and sleeps very well most nights. If she does well all week, it will be time to call for a follow-up sleep study where she will wear her mask in addition to all the other stuff (great).
Favorite activities these days are anything involving ponies, spending time with Daddy, learning Bangla, and doing simple addition. Lyla loves to be independent and help around the house. She's doing a great job washing her hands and even washed her own dishes yesterday afternoon. We're so lucky to have such an awesome kid!
