After storybook we came back to the hotel for a nap. Lyla hasn't been sleeping well here, so we were all tired (3 to a queen bed). We were all refreshed and ready for a fun time at the farm. I was almost in tears as Lyla rode the pony all by herself. It takes a lot is strength and balance to ride a horse and she rode like a champ! She loved petting the chicks and kept going back over and over again. We had the place pretty much to ourselves so got lots of time with the animals.
Custer was fun. We didn't see any buffalo, but we saw a herd of about 17 elk, several groups of pronghorns and lots and lots of white tail deer. We had two pairs of binoculars along, Masud's and my Grandpa's. Both of my grandpas would have loved to see so many beautiful animals --and Lyla taking pictures out her window.
Today we hit up the same places but in a different order. We swapped out storybook island for hotel swimming. The pool here is great and has sections that are just 2 feet and 3 feet deep,, perfect for Lyla. Se has gained a lot of confidence rough pool therapy and was playing superman, chasing us through the water and even trying to dunk us.
While we picnicked a the dinosaur park tonight, Lyla took it upon herself to divvy up the snacks. She split the popcorn between her and Masud, then gave me the Cheez-its from home. Then she grinned and said, "How do you like them apples?" She also sang me a song about how moms need to share with their kids, then proceeded to steal and eat my ice cream cone. Yes, she gets whatever she wants most of the time.
We're headed home tomorrow. I hear the weather's not quite as nice as the mid-seventies and sunny days we've had here. Seems strange to be sunburned, but it feels kind of good too. Happy Memorial Day everyone! Thank you to those of you who have given so much to give us this beautiful life.
