Happy New Year!

We're back at it post-holiday and ready for an awesome 2016! On New Year's Eve we went to the orthotist and got the awesome news that Lyla doesn't need to wear a brace on her right leg anymore! Her old pair was getting small, so the orthotist watched her walk and run and measured and stretched and said he thinks a new brace for left is warranted, but that righty is stroenough to go it alone. Lyla had a mixed reaction and got very upset at first that she would no longer have bilateral braces. After a trip to the toy closet and a pep talk from Bill, she was ready to accept it - and pick out a new pattern for her brace. She chose an icy blue swirl pattern and a karate kid for the back. She wouldn't tell me what color she ordered for the straps.

The kids love sitting at my desk. Amir wants his turn on the iPad too these days and likes to watch pbs kids and play easy bake oven and imommy.

He bonked his cheek on the corner of the table last week and got a nice shiner. He's all over the place these days and this week he added several more bruises. My tough little guy!

Lyla has been very into "Yummy Nummies" mixes these days and when her mixes run out, she likes to play holiday baking or kids baking championship. She made some delicious molded chocolates and marshmallow taffy.

Sweet black-eyed baby.

We've been packing in lots of family time before the tax season gets into full swing and had the zoo aquarium almost to ourselves last weekend. Amir loved looking at the sharks with Daddy and running all over the place.

Lyla liked watching the fish too. When Amir joined her on the ledge, I thought it would be a perfect photo op. Everything was great a and cute ...

And then Amir fell off the ledge. Clearly I didn't learn my lesson way back when Lyla fell off the curb years ago.

And today! I scored a zippy sack for Lyla this morning and wanted to wait until her birthday to give it to her, but I knew she would love it, so I just couldn't. She mixed up her clinic days and didn't get on the bus today so I had to pick her up from school. It turned into a fun afternoon setting up her bed, playing chutes and ladders, and watching shows on the couch.

Loving these kiddos and the big things to come! Lyla wil be testing for her orange belt next weekend and then it's birthday time! And Amir is talking up a storm these days ... And asking to hold my hand. Tonight he told Masud, "Good Daddy." Love love love!
