Just Sleepin' Over at Gillette

Lyla had her third sleep study Tuesday night at Gillette. She did a great job getting all of her stickers on and slept VERY well the whole night. There was one small hiccup with the mustache sticker, but once we got it on, everything was fine. We watched some Ponies, checked the weather and snuggled up for a few minutes before she was down for the night.

Dr. Garcia said the study went very well from a clinical perspective and that they were able to get a lot of good data. Lyla once again demonstrated that she has hypoventilation (shallow breathing). They were able to adjust her CPAP pressure so she didn't need any oxygen. She was doing great with 12/4 at home, but her adjusted settings will be a little higher at 14/5. She will also have a backup rate of 16. I'm not sure if that pushes her into a bipap situation, but either way, if it means she doesn't need supplemental oxygen, it works for me. She didn't seem to notice any difference because to here, it's just the mask.

Dr. Garcia also said she has a tendency to have small collapses in her airway called hypopneas when she is in her deep dream sleep stage. He likened it to men in their 50s who snore because of obstructive sleep apnea. That and her central apnea can both also be controlled by the cpap mask, so i guess that's out solution for the long term. Not ideal, but Lyla has adapted to the mask very quickly and i would MUCH rather she wear the mask at night than have to be trached throughout the day.

Proud of my champion sleeper! Her positive attitude and trust impress me every time. Love this kid!
